Crashed

My computer is toast, so I'll be out of commission for maybe a month unless I can get the hang of working with pictures on my daughter's Mac. At least I can read blogs so I'll have fun keeping up on what you all are doing. Maybe I'll get more housecleaning done & get everything organized like crazy around here......

.................NAH!

Gift from down under

I received such a nice surprise in the mail yesterday! Kate had a giveaway and I won this lovely book & she included a chocolate bar as well (yum!). Thanks so much Kate, I love it! It's kismet that I won a book of embroidery designs since I've just gotten back into embroidery in the last couple of months. I've been trying to get my daughter hooked on quilting, with some small success, but she told me the other day that for now she's prefering embroidery, it works out better for her with the baby. I can understand that, when I had babies I didn't get involved in a lot of big projects because it was frustrating for me. Embroidery works out well because you can put it down at any point and start back up where you stopped. I guess quilting would be the same if I always followed a pattern, but I tend to do my own thing & when I'm moving along on a project it bugs me to be interrupted.

I really like the bag with the lounging kitty on it & would like to start it today, but I'm trying to make myself finish more Christmas presents before I start something new (want to place any bets on how long that will last?). I've been making good progress but time really flies these days and Christmas will be here in no time. I'm still kind of in shock that it's October already, I don't even remember much of September, where did it go?

This embroidery is one of the Christmas presents I've been working on. I'm not sure if it will end up as a pillow or a wall hanging. It's from the Santa's Coming booklet from Art To Heart (Nancy Halvorsen). I love their booklets, they have such cute projects and many of them are small enough that I can make them fairly quickly and use up some of my scraps as well. If you get this booklet and decide to do this project, make note that they spelled Dickens wrong on the pattern (Dickins). This project is perfect for me, as A Christmas Carol has always been one of my favorites. I'm kind of a Christmas junkie, I really wish they'd move Christmas back to about February so I could savor it (and it would make winter seem shorter as well!).

Fall is definitely here, we still don't have a lot of color, but the nights are getting quite chilly & the days aren't as warm. We didn't get too many pumpkins from the garden thanks to some sort of fungal rot that was going around because of this year being so wet, but I did get a few small ones that are now perched on the front porch. I need to buy a big one somewhere, I'm in the mood for carving. I've just been out picking apples & am heading to the kitchen to make an apple pie. I'll be back soon with some fall pictures!

A little later......guess who's going to be happy when he walks in the back door soon & inhales?
